What Berlin Taught Me About Analog Photography

( FILM DIARIES )

Berlin is a city full of art, and we all know that. There’s something about its streets, the people, even the U-Bahn, that appeals us. Analog photography is also quite big in Berlin, I don’t know the exact reason why, but the city seems to inspire everyone to shoot film.

I was aware of that, but I never thought I would end up shooting about ten rolls of film in a four-month timespan. And here I am! During these months I have carried my trustworthy Olympus Stylus Infinity Zoom camera (one my dad bought when he went to New York in the 90s and now it’s mine to use) everywhere I have been, every single day.

It took me a while to get used to the process and stop worrying so much about seeing-editing-sharing the result asap. So, I would finish my roll, get on my bike and ride to Wedding to develop it in my trustworthy lab Safelight.

Aside from patience, I have learned to cherish every shot and, at the same time, not worry too much — maybe that photo that you’re not so sure of taking will end up being one of your favorites.

I saw myself noticing all the little mistakes I was making (and still make), and the following roll would be way better.

So, now that you know what I have been up to with my film photography, I wanted to show you some of my favorite shots from these months.

Most of these photos were taken between September and October — you can really tell by the color of the light.

Now I know that the following roll will be better…

SEE YOU SOON,

X

PATRICIA
